Five Ten Impact
Anyone who needs to stick to their pedals like glue while hitting the roughest terrain but needs the freedom to bail out without the constraint of clips should seriously consider the benefits of the Five Ten Impact.
More correctly known as the Impact 2, the shoe has been refined from the original Impact and is now lighter, a better fit and even better looking. than before. The durable leather upper makes the shoe easy to clean while giving a high level of protection.
While the Impact 2 is designed for serious bike riding, it is no slouch in the walking department. The sole is stiffer than the average walking shoe to help get power to the pedals but is still comfortable enough to walk in. The Stealth S1 sole is ultra-sticky on most surfaces - even ice - and is the ultimate tool for keeping your foot where it needs to be without resorting to clips.
The Impact 2 RangeFive Ten Impact 2 shoes come in two styles, low-cut and high-cut, and one color, a nice, practical black. The high-cut style adds extra ankle protection at the sacrifice of a little freedom of movement for the ankle.

Sizing And FitAs with any flat pedal shoe, they should be a close fit without being too tight. This stops your feet sliding inside the shoe while maintaining comfort for walking. The Impact 2 is designed with a feature called a slingshot rand. This is a rubber band around the heel which effectively pulls your heel down into the shoe keeping a secure, comfortable fit.
ConstructionThe uppers are leather lined with nylon. The gives great durablility and limits the amount of stretch. This type of upper will rarely stretch more than a half-size, if that. They are easy to clean which makes getting the mud off a lot easier than with some synthetic uppers. These shoes are not waterproof although the construction of the thick tongue will keep much debris out as it is stitched to the shoe along one side.
The upper also features a barrel lace-up closure for quick and easy on and off, silver highlights for visibility and a TPU (Thermoplastic PolyUrethane) toecap for extra protection. The slingshot construction around the heel will have the effect of locking your foot down to the sole of the shoe for a secure fit.
The midsole is compression-molded PU (Poly Urethane) and is light but well cushioned for comfort.
The sole is Stealth S1 rubber which is one of the stickiest types of rubber available. It has superb grip on most surfaces and is especially good on flat pedals to the extent you may have to lift your foot from the pedal to change position. In fact, it may take some time to get used to the amount of grip these shoes have.
